Fauna Futura
OVERVIEW
Fauna Futura is a project speculating on the future of wildlife and the power and ethics of AI. We've created an interactive experience featuring AI-generated images and audio to give an idea of what a future deprived of wildlife might look like.

Process
I had previously worked with AI image generation (VQGAN, DALL-e...) and recently come across AI for audio generation.
What if I could use audio and image to simulate animals?
Not knowing too much about training AI models, I teamed up with Konstantine Tsafatinos, a Canada-based data scientist, who was engaged to work on the project and help with generating AI content.
In our minds, Fauna Futura is a startup in a not-too-distant future, where the metaverse is widely accepted and frequently used. Fauna Futura provides content for the metaverse, specializing in artificially created "natural" worlds. One of these is called "Bird Biome" (the one available in the demo), where anyone can see and experience AI-generated birds flying around in a north European forest.
I came up with the concept, created the UI, illustrations and 3D assets (except the point cloud forest that was captured by Florian Bruggisser). Konstantine generated the AI content, worked on sound effects and sound editing.
We both worked on front-end programming.

Exhibition
In June 2023, Fauna Futura was featured in the online group exhibition "A Kind of Alchemy: The Work of Art in the Age of Artificial Intelligence" hosted by DAHJ (Digital Art History Journal).

The way I see it, Fauna Futura touches upon a few different subjects regarding the future and our relationship with technology.
If you've tried out Fauna Futura, I would be thrilled to hear your opinion. Please copy my mail adress in the bottom of the page, and tell me what you think!
